It’s oral cancer awareness month. If you have not been screened for oral cancer recently, you may want to schedule an appointment with your dentist.
Oral cancer remains one of the most under-diagnosed forms of cancers. Sometimes symptoms can be hard to spot because patients may not realize there has been a change in their oral cavity. Oral cancer is often diagnosed in its later stages which reduces the amount and type of treatments that are available. The best way to spot oral cancer in its earliest stage is to visit the dentist twice a year for preventive care visits. During a preventive care visit, Dr. Lynn Morgan can thoroughly examine your head and neck to determine if you have developed any signs of oral cancer. An oral cancer screening takes a few minutes but may offer a lifetime of benefits. Patients will receive an oral cancer screening during their biannual exam. If there are signs of oral cancer present during your examination, Dr. Morgan will work with you to coordinate the next steps for your care.
